Screen Actors Guild Award 2012 - Fashion Police

Screen Actors Guild Awards is all about actors acknowledging great work by other actors in an relaxed fashion. They could have easily staged this in an actor’s living room because it had that sort of familiar mateship feel to the entire event. People are free to say what they want and WEAR what they want. Some get it right and as always some get it terribly wrong.

BEST DRESSED
We begin with the two Fashion Police Queens Giuliana and Kelly....

Giuliana Rancic is looking better than even in the fire red Basel Soda gown with her trademark Giuseppe Zanotti.

We rarely see Kelly Osbourne in a white, but in this Badgley Mischka couture gown it works. I LOVE this girl's style and the ways she mixes naughty and nice. One day she is rock the next she pulls off feminie lace just as easily.

George Clooney - in a Giorgio Armani tux - was accompanied by girlfriend Stacy Keibler, who wore a custom-made Marchesa black lace gown. LOVE LOVE LOVE THE BOAT NECK. Elegant, sublte sexiness and love the hair too.

Octavia Spencer collected her Best Supporting Actress award for The Help in a custom-made Tadashi Shoji dress. She rivals all the size twos on the red carpet. To me it doesn’t matter what size you are – making the right choice is just an obvious. As you will see in the WORST DRESSED section even size zeros get it terribly wrong.

Viola Davis, who won the Best Actress award for The Help, in a white Marchesa gown. Her cleavage also was a highlight on the night as she made this grecian dress look fresh.

Ashlee Simpson wore a delicate Jenny Packham gown and carried a Swarovski clutch. Her earrings don’t match but she blows me away in this figure hugging stunner.

Rose Bryne shunned the typical gowns for an Elie Saab couture jumpsuit from the archive collection and matched it with Jimmy Choo platforms. This huge fashion risk worked and it worked BIG TIME!

Amber Heard wore a Zac Posen black fishtail gown and she wore it to perfection. Her entire look was phenomenal with her hair styled up and clean make up – she was fashion forward and edgy.

Kyra Sedgwick in Pucci – WHAT A MILF?! She has a son that is my age but I would die for her figure. She put a lot of younger actresses to shame on the red carpet. STUNNING!

Tilda Swinton arrived in a plunging white Lanvin gown, which needed more of a waist but still looked gorgeous. This woman is the epitome of modern androgyny as she manages to look feminine and strong at the same time.

Melissa McCarthy wore a Badgley Mischka couture midnight blue draped gown. Again this is the correct way to look stunning at any size.

Emma Stone wore a pre-autumn/winter 2012-13 dress, clutch and shoes all by Alexander McQueen straight off the couture runways. This look is very cute  and very different from her Lanvin look from the Globes. Only thing I would have suggest is to go less ‘matchy matchy’ with her McQueen shoes... but still cute.

NOT WORST NOR BEST DRESSED
I created this section because some ladies nearly got there but just missed the mark.... and I felt bad putting them in the worst dressed list because it wasn’t THAT BAD.

Meryl Streep wore a belted petrol blue Vivienne Westwood gown, which I didn’t love. I only LIKE and not love this dress because the of the brown leather belt – it confuses me. It dresses down the entire outfit. In saying this, the silhouette is perfect for her mature body.

Kristen Wiig now this is an interesting one – she would have been BEST DRESSED OVERALL if she kept her look simple in the Balenciaga white dress. BUT NO she had to add the RIDICULOUS choker... WHY?!??????!!!

Sofia Vergara wore a custom-made Marchesa fuchsia gown and accessorised it with a Thale Blanc clutch. Her hilarious sense of humour is helping distract us from the fact she always wears the same dress. I am a bit over it...

Angelina Jolie in a Jenny Packham autumn/winter 2011 draped gown. It looks like gothic Angie is back from ten years ago. It isn’t ugly but she doesn’t look good when she is soooooooo skinny. We just expect more from her.

Jessica Chastain  who was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category - in a Calvin Klein Collection sapphire gown, Harry Winston jewellery and Jimmy Choo heels. Pretty, but it doesn’t do anything for her insignificant cleavage – the colour matches her skin but she needed more jewellery. Chic but at the same time it doesn’t pop.

WORST DRESSED

Michelle Williams wore the Valentino red gown and still got it wrong. I can’t believe I am saying this about a Valentino gown but the top part is ill fitted and the strange length makes me want to run. The Roger Vivier heels look cheap and are ‘matchy matchy’ with her Lanvin clutch.

Emily Blunt in the Oscar de la Renta asymmetric gown didn’t work for me. The dress doesn’t hang right on her. The model is showing how it is meant to be worn with a long split for long legs... Love the colour but it falls wrongly on her.

Zoe Saldana in this Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci spring/summer 2012 white gown is straight off the runway but tooooooooooo shiny shiny, and toooooooooo bling bling. The look doesn’t make sense – her shoes are so wrong it hurts to look at them and the tank underneath looks messy and cheap.

Lea Michele in a Versace gown with the thigh-high slit was trying to do sexy again but I think she thought showing more leg would look good but oppsie... her legs are too short...

Shailene Woodley from The Descendants in Lorenz scott makes me shiver. In the words of Joan River “this is just so f**king ugly”.

Heather Morris from Glee wore a dress by somebody but I don’t care who made this because it is CHEAP with a capital C. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!

Well that was a fun Fashion Police were the fashion was individual - to say the least.

Until next time...

Un bacione
