Dolce & Gabbana - A/W 2012-2013 – Menswear - Milan

Dolce & Gabbana

As Luciano Pavarotti’s operatic voice belted out the speakers, Domenic and Stefano sent the most dashing Italian men down the runway. The epitome of Italian opulence and grandeur radiated through the dramatic collection, which featured some of the most beautiful pieces ever seen in a men’s collection. The golden embroidery, lavish fabric choices and the modern interpretation on 17th century baroque style was grand but the collection still managed to include the Dolce midas touch with a substantial amount of half naked men.
The velvet lapels (on single-breasted and double-breasted jackets and coats worn with skinny ties beneath), the relaxed bow ties and the insertion of denim brought the collection back to the streets.
The duo righteously named the collection ‘A Hymn to Italy’ as their family and dreams were their inspiration. “The clothes have to have a history — it’s not about being retro, but they have to have had their own life. It’s about memories, familiarity — it’s comforting,” explained Dolce to WWD.
‘Comfort’ was certainly epitomised in the silk pyjamas, which I am slightly obessed with. I have actually been looking for a pair myself for a while and this has just fuelled my obsession – Can somebody say ‘BEYOND ADDICTED to SILK’...
Soprattutto, I think you can sum up this collection in two words = ‘dramatic elegance’
