The 84th Academy Awards - FASHION POLICE

The 84th Academy Awards is full of the crème de la crème of the best that Hollywood has to offer. The guests at such shows are selected and few but those that attend are dressed impeccably.
The stylists work tirelessly to make the women and men of Hollywood look their best, as couturier and jewellers fight to have the designs on the rich and famous.

This year many stylists got it right and only a few confused me so I don’t have a BEST and WORST, I have a BEST and NOT BAD dressed.

BEST

After Gwyneth Paltrow's stunning Calvin Klein gown at last year's Oscars, we wondered if she could pull off another style win this year.

She did and she did BIG TIME... Gwyneth, who was there to present an award, totally nailed it, showing up in an equally striking Tom Ford white cape dress, which left everyone with their mouths open. The "Contagion" actress wore only a diamond cuff bracelet and kept her hair just as sleek, slicking it back in a low ponytail.

Giuliana Rancic is magnificent in this white and silver beaded Tony Ward fishtail gown. The beading is beautifully applied to the bodice and the beaded organza in her skirt is just the right amount. This stunning media lady shone more than the starlets she was interviewing.

Milla Jovovich may have simply presented an award, but stood the part of a Hollywood movie star in the beautiful one should silver Elie Saab gown from the recent Couture collection. With her supermodel height, she wore this gown perfectly and took my breath away when I saw her come onto the screen.

Michelle Williams looked superb in this feminie coral Louis Vuitton gown. I am in LOVE with this lady since seeing My Week With Marilyn last night. She was brilliant in that movie and she certainly deserved to win today.

Academy Award Winner, Octavia Spencer looked spectacular in Tadashi Shoji & Neil Lane jewels. I adore the fact she stayed loyal to Shoji throughout the award season as he obviously knows how to fit Octavia’s figure perfectly.

Jessica Chastain went for a more risqué look in this Alexander McQueen gown. The normally demure starlet carried the copper and gold tones on black organza gown perfectly as she moved down the red carpet.

George Clooney, who wore Giorgio Armani, was once again accompanied by the biggest chameleon on the red carpet, Stacy Keibler. Less than ten years ago Stacey was a tacky wrestler but now she is a goddess in this shimmering gold Marchesa gown and Judith Leiber diamonds - PLUS on the arm of the best looking bachelor in Hollywood.

Leslie Mann rocked this navy Roberto Cavalli gown. Ohhhh I loved this one. It sparkled in all the right places.

Angelina Jolie was the token plus one at this year’s Oscars in this black Atelier Versace with a thigh high spilt. Effortlessly Elegant.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture was a shock to many as it was the first time she wore white on the red carpet. Her striking hair and red lips were magnificent.

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel & Neil Lane was a vision of feminine elegance. I love this look more than the Golden Globes and even her soft hair worked on this red carpet.

Cameron Diaz was simply striking in the nude Gucci gown.

Glenn Close in what looks like a matte emerald Zac Posen gown, is a style setter for women at a mature age. She looks splendid and still elegantly sexy.

NOT BAD

Bérénice Bejo in a mint Elie Saab gown with Swarovski and Chopard jewellery was a tad boring. Her stunning features and fire red hair deserved a better dress.

Rose Byrne glistened in the midnight blue Vivienne Westwood gown and Chanel Jewellery. This super slim Australian beauty should have reconsidered the chunky Jimmy Choo heels otherwise this look was perfect.

Emma Stone in a red Giambattista Valli & Louis Vuitton jewels was stunning but it was a bit of déjà vu of Nicole Kidman from three years ago in Balenciaga.

Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi & Chopard jewels was nice but she looks bigger than what she is. This cut is wrong because it makes her breasts look huge.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad was nice but not classy. She could have easily worn the same gown to the Grammys but the Oscars deserve more respect and glamour.

Maya Rudolph decided to go with New Zealand couturier Johanna Johnson and Neil Lane jewellery. This dress was obviously not for an award nominee but she did look pretty.

Viola Davis wore an emerald green Vera Wang gown and if her boobies didn’t hang out on the side and over the front of her dress she would have been best dressed. Her hair was too casual also. But I loved her earrings.

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture & Harry Winston jewels was not age appropriate and quite confusing. With its bulky sleeves and tight neckline, the heavy white gown made the "The Descendants" actress, who's only 20, look 40. When you have a figure like hers she should have chosen something a little more youthful.

Sandra Bullock slipped through at the last minute in an ill fitted Marchesa black and white gown. It was a nice dress but it was a perfect example of how important a good tailor is to a stylist.

Let me know your thoughts... Agree, disagree I don’t mind. Style is individual.

Ciao!
