Ready To Wear - Spring/Summer 2012 - New York –Saturday, September 10

It took me a few days to get into New York Fashion Week but finally on day four Altuzarra got me excited...

Altuzarra – Spring/Summer 2012 – RTW

IT was a war of nature versus urban at Altuzarra for spring/summer 2012, and thankfully there were no losers. The result, a tailored collection that proved clever and utterly unforgettable against a concrete jungle.
Sporty silhouettes in complex techno fabrics were paired with a brilliant multi-hued birds-of-paradise print, originating from a vintage Hawaiian shirt. The expertly balanced drama could have easily been a disaster in the hands of a lesser designer. Even though Joseph Altuzarra has never been known to play it safe, his unconventional take on fashion and knack of breaking the rules and coming out on top has hit the right chord yet again.

Altuzarra has a peculiar ability to present a radical new vision each season – though always maintaining his trademark futuristic aesthetic.

This season his vision was sleek and controlled, even aerodynamic and form-fitting at times.  The black and white dresses with a nineties-style zip detailing launched the show, followed by leather pieces. The most interesting leather piece was designed to appear as a classic overcoat. Jospeh finished with some brightly coloured loose knit sweaters and bold print dresses and skirts.
Altuzarra’s idea to introduce a bold print to the mix came from an old shirt he happened across.
“I liked the challenge of playing around with an old Hawaiian textile print and attempting to make it chic, I also wanted to present the duality of the natural with the techno urban,” he explained following the show. “When I started building the collection, it was an extension of last season’s fetishised outer urban-wear. I wanted to push this idea of functional clothing that is protection against the built environment – but take into spring.” (Vogue UK)

BEYOND UNREAL once again...
