Carolina Herrera – Spring/Summer 2012 – RTW

Carolina Herrera’s collection projected a cool and elegant feel. There were witty pieces that were those made of the perky sparrow print used for dresses and blouses. Some were even matched with sparrow print scarfs. The collection was built on vibrant fresh colours and the bold graphical detailing.
Stunning features included black piping on a green canvas jacket, sepia piping on the curved lapels of a grey coat, skinny red and black patent belts, linear lines of beading and appliqué on dresses, blouses and skirts.
The beautiful soft evening gowns boasted dramatic embellishments, of contrasting black beading or leather belts. The traditional goddess gown was transformed into more classical silhouettes with snug bodices and full-blown long skirts.

So Classic, So Crisp - So Carolina!!

Now for the Front Row at Carolina...

Victoria Beckham – Spring/Summer 2012 – RTW

It was only last season that a heavily pregnant Victoria Beckham showcased, a less traditional VB look. As a response to her rounder pregnant silhouette, VB left her preferred slim shape and went for a freer and roomier style. This season, in a New York City Library, VB reclaimed her signature petite frame post-childbirth. Her designs were thoughtful, modern, and luxurious.

Stand-outs this season were her razor-sharp dresses, with an emphasis on the body through use of corsets, colour-blocking and decorative seaming. The surprisingly versatile collection conveyed an upscale sophistication and allure, and could easily transcend from the office to a night out without changing a thing. Even though many pieces were shown in dark navy and black, pops of tangerine lightened many pieces up for spring. A surprising aspect of the collection was Beckham's exploration with technical sportswear, crafting billowing jackets in a gorgeous slate colour from floating but flexible and tactile dresses with functional pockets and zipper detailing. Floor-length, grand pleated skirts were dynamic and sporty, gushing downward from dropped waists, another recurring theme of the collection. The designer lightened what could have been an otherwise dark collection with interesting trimmings like grosgrain straps held together by metal hardware and glossy baseball caps that were made by Stephen Jones.

VB has showcased her obsession with a strong showing of accessories, with box-bags of the softest and most opulent leather and contrasted neon. The shoes, by Christian Louboutin, were divine, and some where even practical flats. Victoria's sharp eye and skilful construction consistently shows a fascinating perspective of the human form and physique. Her appreciation of subtle opulence is clear as many of the streamlined simple shift dresses would be fit for a modern-day princess – like Princess Kate.

Well done VB - Well done!!
