Sunday,
February 10 was a very busy evening in both London and Los Angeles as
scheduling went array with both the Grammy Awards and the BAFTAs were held on
the same night…
Let’s start
with the Baftas - The British Acadamy of Film and Theatre Awards are always damned with freezing cold weather, and this year was no different as many starlets carried brolleys.
From best to worst - here goes...
From best to worst - here goes...
Another Femme of Dior, Marion Cotillard faced the cold in this sunshine yellow Couture creation. The billowing drape and peek of skin brought happiness and smiles to the red carpet = 9/10
Jessica Chastain was a vision in this sapphire blue Roland Mouret. The asymmetrical gown was fit impeccably to her body as were the Harry Winston sapphire jewels. Couldn’t miss them! WOW! = 8/10
The Olsen’s are known to be risk-takers, so no surprise youngest sister Elizabeth Olsen rocked a black-and-white Chanel Couture gown with tiered ruffles = 8/10
Jennifer Lawrence again wore Dior Couture, as their newest face, but really what a chore that would be. Like really so hard. Once she removed her dark coat, her strapless pink gown was very lady like with stunning cascading stones = 8/10
Anne Hathaway appropriately chose British designer, Burberry. The black gown is nice but I don’t understand why she continues to wear column gowns which elongate her silhouette, considering she is already quite thin. Mind you I LOVE her hair. It looks BEYOND BRILLIANT = 7/10
Dame Helen Mirren tried to join popettes Katy Perry and Kelly Osbourne with her lavender locks, but somehow she looked elderly with the purple rinse. The wrong choices continued with the long-sleeve gown Nicholas Oakwell white confusion – WTF = 3/10
NOW... The Grammy Awards...
While at the Staples Centre in downtown LA the music industry came to play as the biggest music gongs were handed out… A memo was sent to all stylists, advising them not to show too much puffy skin, which meant no cleavage and no hoohah!! Many stars abided by the rules but a few cheeky ladies pushed the barriers of the memo… Here goes – from best to worst…!

Roaring in
Red = Red Hot Rihanna. The Barbados Babe was BEYOND stunning in this
sophisticated candy-apple-coloured, custom dress by Azzedine Alaia. The A-line
design was a change for Ri Ri as she looked more like a lady in this design,
even though the cris-cross detail was a tad see-through. Apparently you could
see her nipple ring but I missed it completely… This woman was a hot mama… and
that hair AMAZING… I want that hair now = 10/10
Florence
Welch is a style setter; she’s gorgeous in her dramatic style and stayed very
much on trend with the emerald green Givenchy look. The custom gown was a modified
version from the Givenchy Fall 2009 Couture collection. The exaggerated stud
trend was rock chic/alien like but somehow she made it look fashion forward. Being
constructed completely of sequins gave the dress great movement, also that thigh
high split showed enough skin considering the high neck and long sleeves. Florence
followed through with the Givenchy stilettos and clutch, all in Pantone’s recommended
Emerald = 9/10
Adele is
Adele, she isn’t stick thin, she isn’t sample size but she has her own style. I
appreciate Adele wearing a colour other than like usual and a print is refreshing
for Spring. Then really can you really go wrong in Valentino = 8/10
Roberto
Cavalli may not have appeared himself on the red carpet but his gowns owned the
floor as Miranda Lambert looked VAVAVOOOOOOM in this sexy black gown = 8/10
Katy Perry turned
quite a few heads in this embellished keyhole (breast exposing) neckline Gucci
gown. Katy also kept on trend with green, but with a lighter shade of mint
green. The gown was skin-tight and Katy does have an amazing body to rock the
tightness, but the gown looked classier on the model with less cleavage. Katy
obviously ignored the memo = 7/10
Nicole Kidman
tried to step back from the spotlight, as the date to her superstar husband Keith
Urban. The gorgeous Aussie was quite demure in a gold Vera Wang full length
gown. I think she is a bit stuck in these sleeveless statuesque gowns, having
worn them at the Sags, Golden Globes and again at the Grammys. She didn’t stand
out and the gown was forgettable, but all I hope is she chooses a different
silhouette at the Oscars next weekend… P.S. Black shoes was a bad choice = 6/10
Kelly Rowland
ignored the memo also, and even though she has a rocking body I felt a bit
awkward when I looked at her in this Georges Chakra black gown. All the lines
in her dress pointed directly to her private bits, and I found that quite foul.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the razor sharp cutouts and technique in
assembling such a dress, but if there was a darker lining perhaps it wouldn’t have
been so offensive = 6/10
Carrie
Underwood also chose the Italian stilista
for a breathtaking gown which had intricately worked lace. I loved the dress
but I wish she didn’t accept the old fashioned bling, it aged her entire look =
6/10 (because of the bad jewels not because of the RC gown)
Taylor Swift was
going for a Greek goddess-like look, and to be honest she didn’t look bad in J.
Mendel but I am sick of her looking like a ‘goody-toe-shoes’. Apparently she
has had a lot of boyfriends but she looks so demure all the time. I really want
to see her look sexier, look more like a woman. I am a bit bored of her braided
hair too… I’m just BLAH about this look = 6/10
Following in
the heels of Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, Carly Rae also wore a Roberto Cavalli dress for the evening. The dress
was beautiful but the look was ruinied with her immature make up and hair =6/10
TWO WORDS - Beyoncé
disappointed. Whilst the Grammys is the chance to be fashion forward and take risks,
I felt like Beyoncé was lazy in this Osman jumpsuit. The graphic lines were
strong and on trend but it wasn’t glam, it wasn’t the most flattering option
and it wasn’t worthy of being alongside the Givenchy gowns on the night = 5/10
Jennifer
Lopez had one of the most memorable Grammy fashion moments in the plunging Versace
but I would rather forget this Anthony Vaccarello asymmetrical gown. It was “a
little shoulder and a little toooooo much leg,” as JLo nearly flashed her
Vajayjay a few times and tried to cover it up with her Jimmy Choo clutch. That
Angelina Jolie leg thrust was OTT and I would have preferred less intense hair.
It was ‘really’ pulled back, like wow, she doesn’t need an eye lift with that
pull back = 5/10
You would
think if Faith Hill chose a little black dress she would be safe but…oh no she wasn’t.
The J. Mendel cocktail dress cut her off just above the knees and the beaded
necklace collar, sheer bodice, confetti-like sequins, and sweetheart neckline
made the top of her dress too much to look at. No more words just a = 4/10
