The Brownlow Red Carpet is my second favourite Australian Red
Carpet after the Logies, because these wags know how to dress - well most of them. We know these
wags are competitive as the claws, louboutins and double sided tape comes out
as they compete for best dressed.
Best
Dressed
The ladies in red were the show stoppers by far…
Jessie Haberman, partner of Carlton footballer Marc Murphy, is head to toe perfection.
Lauren, wife of Richmond captain Chris Newman, shone on the red carpet last year in gold and this year she didn't disapoint in this beautiful red print.
Belinda Riverso, girl friend of Adelaide’s Rory Sloane, stole the
show as the top SA wag.
Leading into summer I was expecting some white and the following ladies
pulled off white like ethereal goddesses.
Jessica Holtham accompanied Adelaide's Nathan van Berlo to the
Brownlow in a one off Paolo Sebastian gown. Always breathtaking in anything
Paul creates.
Rebecca Judd, wife of Carlton's
captain Chris Judd, took on a more modern look in a Toni Maticevski gown.
The most popular accessory on the red carpet was the baby bump. You can tell these guys really enjoyed pre-season ;)
Felicity, wife of Former Geelong captain Tom Harley, was my
favourite pregnant wag in Alex Perry.
Kerry, wife of West Coast's Dean Cox, chose lace sleaves to distract from her
bump in a modest way.
Renee Costa decided to accompany Geelong's Corey Enright at the
last minute and I think she did so radiantly.
Black is always safe but these ladies took their gowns to the next
level with impeccable designs.
Ella Keddie had all eyes on her most of the night, as she
accompanied Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson. However, she shone just as much as the
medal around Jobe’s next in the stunning Bona Dea Alex Perry gown.
Alex Davis and Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury were certainly the
best dressed couple of the night both rocking my favourite designer of all time,
Versace.
Pia Miller, wife of former Richmond and Melbourne player Brad
Green, was reporting for Seven on the red carpet and made mouths drop in this
black laser cut gown with a leather peplum belt. She was a huge favourite of
mine.
Carly Ziegler, partner of Richmond's Jack Riewoldt, also chose black
and a leather peplum belt but this was a little more modest and a little bit more hollywood glamour than Pia.
A pop of colour is always needed and Jasmin Putra, partner of Western
Bulldogs' Ryan Griffen, certainly popped with this orange gown.
I can’t go past this radiant beauty - Lucy Cornes is beautiful
inside and out. Alex Perry called them King and Queen of the prom, and I have
to agree. This Couture+Love+ Madness gown can be yours as Lucy is auctioning it
off in support of Sunraysia
Animal Rehousing Group, which is in honour of John McCarthy. Follow this link to make your bid on this stunning piece.
Worst
Dressed
I struggle choosing worst dressed because I don’t like to be mean
but these ladies just missed the mark. Some by a little, some by a lot but I
think of it like constructive criticism.
Elise Swallow’s dress is okay but the over the top neck piece
ruins the entire look.
Brooke Kennedy, partner of Richmond's Trent Cotchin, has worked to
much lace in to her look and I am not a fan of the colour.
Amy, wife Port Adelaides's Jay Schultz, had a near perfect look. I
love love love that she is trying a modern design with the mid drift top and
bright colour but the accessories just don’t work for me. She needed simple
gold pieces and less chunky shoes. This is very similar to the Emilio Pucci
dress Gwyneth Paltrow wore to last year’s Emmy’s, however, the difference is, Gwyneth
kept it effortless.
Emma Clapham, partner of Geelong's Tom Hawkins, is blessed in the
chest area, so I would have suggested a less busty design. Perhaps, the top
part of her dress should have also been in black.
I think Philippa, wife of Gavin Wanganeen, thought the Brownlow’s
was another opportunity to feel like a bride.
Taylor Wilson, partner of Collingwood's Dane Swan, had it 90%
correct. The 10% which didn’t wow me was the trim at the bottom.
Jenna Cumming, partner of Brisbane Lions' Tom Rockliff, tried to
add a pop of turquoise to the gown on the straps and with her shoes but it didn’t
work.
Alisha, wife of Carlton's Heath Scotland, wanted to have a Cinderella
moment but it was just awkward. The gown looked like it came out of the 90’s,
plus I saw her in the crowd and she struggled to fit the dress under the table.
Last but certainly not least, Brynne Edelsten. You can’t help but
love Brynne, however, this dress was ridiculous. Described by Brynne as Black
Swan meets Disco Barbie, this dress only works as a joke.
My favourite night of football season is over for another year. Untill next September...
